I'd be surprised if an executive champion somewhere hasn't already used the concept of Positive Deviance to promote a user-centered design culture in their organization. Does anyone have examples to show how it has been used successfully?
Well we certainly do that at HFI. Kath is our official deviant of course. She comes up with new and different projects, technologies, and insights. She is also charged with scanning the HFI community for new ideas. For example our whole PET Design initiative started when Mona Patel was chatting with Jay More and got the idea of a 'PET Scan'. Kath picked this deviation from our conventional process up, and the rest is history.
